HOW IT WORKS

What is FortNox Vault?

An encrypted notes app. You pick a password — your notes are locked with AES-256-GCM and exist only in your browser's RAM. The server never sees your data. Not even the key.

ZeroState — what this means

Notes live in memory only. Close the tab or refresh and they are gone. This is intentional — no trace on disk, no cloud sync, no way to subpoena what doesn't exist. Export before you close if you want to keep your notes.

Getting started

  • Choose any password → Create vault
  • Write notes as normal — they are encrypted automatically
  • Export before closing the tab, or your notes are gone
  • Your password is the only way to read your notes — there is no recovery

Exporting your vault

  • Send via Drop — one-time encrypted link, zero trace, best option
  • Select all text — copy the encrypted blob, paste it wherever you want
  • Save as file — downloads a .vault file to disk (encrypted, but leaves a trace)

Opening a saved vault

On the start screen, click Open existing vault. Load your .vault file or paste the exported text. Enter your original password → Open vault. Your notes are restored in RAM.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Alt+N — new note
  • Alt+E — export vault
  • Escape — go back
